Blog Post 24 Dec 2016

“You lie … I’ll swear to it. Then I’ll deny it … say it was locker room talk … threaten to sue.”

Retirees -
I received an interesting notice from AARP in the mail recently.  It incorporated a series of identical petitions to sign and mail to my US Senators and Congressman, and even to President-elect Trump.  The petitions all urged the elected official “to take immediate action and work with both … Democrats and Republicans to develop a viable plan to ensure the long term stability of Social Security. … This important foundation of retirement security is in trouble, and will soon not be able to pay out 100% of the benefits owed to Americans.”

I urge you all, no matter your political orientation, to write your elected officials and stress the necessity of dealing with this cornerstone of retirement planning … unless you’re really wealthy or don’t pay taxes.

Mr. Trump not only hasn’t paid taxes for YEARS, now he may escape them even further.  Now there’s a MAN FOR THE PEOPLE.

Refilling the swamp - If you “drain the swamp”, but fill it with identical swamp critters, does it matter?

Do Millionaires and Billionaires really care about the Middle Class? Aren’t they really the very essence of “Tinkle Down” economics. Tinkle being the appropriate adjective, based on those one percenters tinkling on those below.

Presidential Intelligence Briefings - Mr. Trump told Fox News that he doesn’t intend attend Daily Intelligence briefing on the worlds hot spots because he’s smart … and a few others reasons, some even sound reasonable.

HOWEVER – this arrogance also gives some the impression that he’s passing off daily decisions on world issuers to his second in command, VP Pence. Maybe he needs the time to participate in some TV show, Celebrity Apprentice or Access DC (or whatever). This decision, which he probably will TWEET more about, then may reverse, certainly raises questions about how Europe, and the former Soviet vassal states will react. Probably it eases concerns in Vladimir’s mind though, so OK. Also gives him time to deal with climate change and other world issues that will affect us all for the rest of breathable time.

Damn … I keep forgetting. He needs time to be sworn in (Shudder) and have a chance before he tweets something STOOPID, racist, or worse. Oops. He did already!

Mr. Trump’s pick to head the EPA is Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt. Mission statement of the EEE PPP AAA says it is tasked to - protect human health and the environment -- air, water, and land. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies work together to ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures and tribal governments.

Pruitt has twice sued the agency he wants to lead, once to stop regulations aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector and once to stop regulations aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions in the oil and gas sector. Mr. Pruitt is a person who denies the scientific reality of global warming as it now becomes more and more evident in every days’ weather forecasts, news of islands about to be inundated, and coverage of abnormally high (and climbing) global temperatures.

In four years I expect him to work to undo or relax air and water pollution standards and regulations.

Breathe deeply now, and buy face masks for the years ahead.
