Blog Post 05 Jan 2017

Friends, Roman, countrymen ...

Here is a letter I just sent to my Congressman about plans to gut the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

I suggest you share your views with your Congressmen/Senators .

Congressman XXXXX,
I am writing again to share my views on planned changes to health care insurance.  Currently over sixteen million American men, women, and children are covered by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). For the first time in years many American families have coverage which protects against the restriction of “pre-existing” conditions and other insurers methods to limit coverage. Similarly ACA helps to reduce the impact on Emergency Room visits, and medical bankruptcies.

America, despite claims of having the best care in the world, stands below such countries as Oman, Chile, Colombia, and Dominica in the care available to the average citizen. While many rail against socialized medicine in other countries, their citizens’ access to medical care covers all their citizens, and at a cost far lower than the average here. Furthermore, they don’t experience medical bankruptcies, which are the greatest cause of financial collapse in this country.  Source: http://www.cnbc.com/id/100840148 .

I agree ACA needs to be reformed, improved … but not done away with. Sixteen million American will not forget, nor forgive, the removal of coverage they now have under ACA. If the GOP pursues repeal but not replacement of ACA, the American people will remember. Any pretext of saying the GOP reflects the will of the people, or supports the US Constitution’s preamble of “promoting the common welfare” when the most basic of citizen needs is good health … will be gone.

Congressmen and Senators by their position have medical coverage which surpasses that of any citizen, and I’m sure you’ll factor the care you receive into how you vote concerning health care coverage for sixteen million citizens under ACA.

I await your response to my views expressed here, and in my November 2016 submission of views, which remains unanswered.
